Brow Definition vs Brow Lamination: What’s the Difference & Which Brow Course Should You Choose?
If you’re thinking about becoming a brow technician or adding brow treatments to your existing beauty business, two treatments you’ll probably come across straight away are Brow Definition and Brow Lamination.
But what’s actually the difference between the two? Do you need to train in both? Which treatment is most popular with clients? And, importantly, which one could be the best addition to your beauty business?
As a beauty educator with over 22 years of experience in the industry, one thing I always tell my students is that you don’t need to offer every treatment going. You need to choose treatments that work well together, give your clients great results and make sense financially for your business.
Brow treatments can tick all three boxes.
What is Brow Definition?
Brow Definition is all about creating a more defined, flattering brow shape using a combination of professional brow techniques.

During a Brow Definition treatment, you’ll learn how to assess your client’s natural brows and facial features before creating a shape that suits them.
The treatment can include:
● Brow consultation and assessment
● Brow mapping and shaping
● Tinting
● Waxing
● Tweezing
● Trimming
● Finishing and styling the brows
Rather than simply waxing a client’s eyebrows, you’re creating a complete brow treatment with a much more professional and tailored finish.
It’s perfect for clients who want their brows to look neater, fuller and more defined without dramatically changing the direction or texture of their natural brow hairs.
How Much Can You Charge for Brow Definition?
Prices will vary depending on your area, products, experience and positioning, but Brow Definition treatments will typically be priced at around £20–£35+.
One of the biggest advantages is that it can be a relatively quick treatment once you’re confident.
If you charged £30 per treatment and completed four clients, that’s £120 in treatment revenue from a service with relatively low ongoing product costs and treatment time.
Clients also need their brows maintained regularly, which makes it a brilliant treatment for building a repeat client base.
What is Brow Lamination?

Brow Lamination is a different treatment because we’re not just shaping and tinting the brows we’re chemically restructuring the brow hairs.
The treatment allows us to manipulate the direction of the hairs, helping create the appearance of fuller, fluffier and more symmetrical brows.
It can be particularly effective for clients with:
● Unruly brow hairs
● Hairs growing in different directions
● Sparse-looking areas
● Flat or downward-growing brows
● Clients wanting a fuller, more lifted brow appearance
The results can completely transform the appearance of the natural brows without the need for permanent makeup.
How Much Can You Charge for Brow Lamination?
Brow Lamination is generally a higher-priced treatment, with many technicians charging approximately £30–£50+, depending on location products and experience.
The treatment usually takes around 45–60 minutes and the results can last approximately 4–6 weeks, depending on the client’s hair growth cycle and aftercare.
This means you can create another regular appointment for your client rather than relying on one-off treatments.
Brow Definition vs Brow Lamination – What’s the Main Difference?
The easiest way to think about it is this:
Brow Definition focuses primarily on the SHAPE of the brow.
Brow Lamination focuses on both the SHAPE and DIRECTION of the brow hairs.
With Brow Definition, we work with the client’s natural hair growth and enhance what is already there through tinting, mapping, waxing and shaping.
With Brow Lamination, we have the additional ability to restructure and reposition the brow hairs to create a different overall appearance.
Both treatments can create beautiful results, but they suit different clients and different desired outcomes.
Which Brow Course Should a Beginner Start With?
If you are completely new to brows, I personally recommend learning Brow Definition first.
Why?
Because it teaches you the foundations.
Understanding brow mapping, facial symmetry, tinting, waxing, shaping and client consultation gives you the knowledge you need to create great brows.
Once you understand those fundamentals, progressing onto Brow Lamination becomes much easier because you’re adding another skill to knowledge you already have.
However, if you know you want to offer both treatments, completing both courses gives you the ability to offer a much wider range of results to your clients.
Can You Offer Brow Definition and Brow Lamination Together?
Absolutely – and this is one of the reasons I love these treatments from a business point of view.
Not every client wants laminated brows.
Some clients simply want beautifully shaped, tinted and defined brows.
Others love the fuller, fluffy laminated look.
By being trained in both, you can properly consult with your client and recommend the treatment that will actually suit their brows and their desired result, rather than trying to make one treatment work for everybody.
That knowledge is what separates a trained brow technician from someone who has simply learnt the steps of a treatment.
Is Brow Training Worth It?
If you’re already offering nails, lashes or other beauty treatments, brows can be a fantastic additional income stream.
You already have clients coming through your door.
Imagine your nail client mentioning that she needs her brows doing and being able to book that appointment with you rather than sending her somewhere else.
Or combining treatments such as a Lash Lift & Tint with Brow Definition or Brow Lamination to create packages and increase the value of each client appointment.
For somebody completely new to the beauty industry, brows can also be a great place to start because you can build your treatment menu gradually rather than feeling like you need to learn everything at once.
