Is the Summer Heat Affecting Your Beauty Treatments? Lash & Brow Tips

Have you noticed your clients’ lash extensions aren’t lasting as well, lash lifts are behaving differently, or brow laminations seem less predictable during the warmer months?

You’re not imagining it.

Hot weather and high humidity can affect beauty treatments, particularly lash extensions, lash lifts and brow laminations. As temperatures rise during the summer, the environment inside your beauty room or salon can change dramatically — and this can have an impact on your products, application and ultimately your clients’ results.

As a beauty educator with over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry, I always encourage beauty professionals to understand why treatments behave differently rather than immediately assuming they’ve done something wrong.

So, if you’ve been wondering whether the summer heat is affecting your beauty treatments, here’s what you need to know.

How Does Hot Weather Affect Lash Extensions?

One of the biggest problems lash technicians can experience during summer is a change in lash extension retention.

Professional lash adhesive is sensitive to its environment, particularly temperature and humidity.

When humidity increases, lash adhesive can cure more quickly. This means an adhesive that normally works perfectly with your application speed may suddenly start curing before you’ve achieved the ideal bond with the natural lash.

The result?

Clients may experience poor lash retention or premature lash shedding.

If you’re noticing more messages from clients saying their lashes haven’t lasted as long as usual, don’t automatically assume your technique is the problem.

Check your environment first.

Monitor Your Lash Room Temperature and Humidity

Every lash technician should have a hygrometer in their treatment room so they can monitor both temperature and humidity.

You should also know the recommended working conditions for your particular lash adhesive, as different products can perform differently.

During warmer weather, you may need to consider:

● The temperature of your treatment room

● Humidity levels

● Your lash adhesive’s recommended working conditions

● How quickly your adhesive is curing

● Where your adhesive is being stored

● Whether you need to adjust your application speed

Understanding your products and environment is an essential part of becoming a confident professional lash technician.

Summer Holidays Can Affect Lash Retention Too

It’s not always what happens inside the salon that affects retention.

Think about what your clients are doing during the summer.

They’re going on holiday, swimming in pools, spending time in the sea, using SPF, sweating more and spending longer outside in hot temperatures.

All of these lifestyle changes can contribute to their lashes behaving differently.

This is why lash extension aftercare during summer is so important.

Remind clients to keep their lashes clean and follow the correct aftercare advice. Oils, SPF, sweat and everyday build-up around the lash line can all affect how clean the lashes remain between appointments.

Education shouldn’t stop when your client leaves the salon.

Can Hot Weather Affect Lash Lifts?

Lash extensions aren’t the only beauty treatment that can feel different during the summer months.

If you offer lash lift treatments, you may also notice changes.

The condition of your client’s natural lashes can vary depending on their lifestyle, previous treatments and aftercare. Your products can also be affected if they’re stored incorrectly or exposed to excessive heat.

Never rely purely on a timer.

A professional lash lift technician should assess the lashes throughout the treatment and work according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the system being used.

Understanding the science behind a professional lash lift is far more important than simply following the same timings on every client.

Every client’s lashes are different.

Does Summer Heat Affect Brow Lamination?

The same principle applies to brow lamination treatments.

Brow hairs vary hugely between clients. Some are fine and delicate, while others are coarse and resistant.

During warmer weather, clients may also be swimming more frequently, sweating more and applying additional skincare and SPF products around the brow area.

Correct consultation, product application and brow lamination aftercare therefore become even more important.

Make sure clients understand how to look after their brows following their treatment and always follow the manufacturer’s recommended processing and aftercare guidance.

Don’t Automatically Blame Your Products

When something suddenly changes with your treatment results, it’s easy to think:

“My glue isn’t working.”

“This lash lift product isn’t as good anymore.”

“My brow lamination isn’t lasting.”

But before changing products completely, look at what’s changed around you.

Has the weather suddenly become much hotter?

Has your treatment room temperature increased?

Has the humidity changed?

Are your products being stored correctly?

Have your clients changed their routines because they’re on holiday or swimming more?

Troubleshooting is one of the most important skills you can develop as a beauty professional.

Summer Beauty Treatment Aftercare Is Essential

Summer is a great opportunity to remind your clients about aftercare.

Depending on the treatment and manufacturer’s guidance, your advice may include keeping lashes and brows clean, avoiding inappropriate oily products around lash extensions, following immediate post-treatment instructions and being mindful of swimming, heat and excessive moisture.

Rather than waiting for a client to experience a problem, educate them before their appointment ends.

You could even create a summer aftercare post for your Instagram or send clients a quick message before they go on holiday.

Good client education can help improve results while also demonstrating your professionalism and expertise.

Use the Quieter Summer Weeks to Improve Your Skills

Summer can sometimes be quieter for beauty businesses because clients are away on holiday or routines change.

Instead of seeing quieter weeks as a negative, use them to work on your beauty business.

Refresh your knowledge.

Review your treatment techniques.

Update your aftercare.

Create social media content.

Work on your client retention.

Invest in additional accredited beauty training where you feel you have gaps in your knowledge.

The strongest beauty professionals aren’t the ones who never experience treatment problems. They’re the ones who understand how to troubleshoot them when they happen.

Knowledge Builds Confidence

Whether you’re offering lash extensions, lash lifts, brow lamination, builder gel, gel polish or other professional beauty treatments, understanding your products and how external factors can influence your services is incredibly important.

You don’t just want to know how to perform a treatment.

You want to understand why you’re doing each step.

That’s something I’m passionate about teaching throughout my beauty training courses.

With the right training, knowledge and ongoing support, you’ll feel much more confident when something doesn’t quite go to plan.
